1.    Proneという言葉

　She is very accident-prone. 彼女はよく事故を起こす。

　Old people are prone to losing their memory. 年をとった人は忘れっぽくなる。

 

2.    Food for thought

　Life is not all beer and skittles. 人生はいいことばかりじゃない。

　Life is not all roses. 人生はいいことばかりじゃない。

 

3.    パブで一杯　

　パブはPublic houseの略です。昔は、salon bar/ public barに差があったが、今は

　差はないと思います。どのように注文するかを覚えておこう。

　Half of lager, please. ラーガを半パイントください。

　Pint of lager, please. ラーガを1パイントください。

　英国でチーズとワインのパーティというと本当にチーズとワインしか出ませ

　ん。パーティの目的は「人と話しをすること」にあるためです。相手を知るこ

　とが大事です。名前を覚えることも重要です。また、お酒を飲んでもよいが、

　酔ったことを外に出さないことがエチケットです。

　Hair of the dog that bit you. 迎え酒

　I had one drop too many. 飲みすぎです。参考 You said one word too many.

　I have a hangover. 二日酔いです。

　Would you like a drink?　　　　　　アルコール飲料

　Would you like something to drink? 　アルコール以外

 

4.    男はつらいよ

　11  「さあ、写しますよ、ニッコリ笑って」

　　　Let me take your picture. Ok, smile.

　12 「まあ、その話はまた別の機会に（しましょう）」

　　　Let me talk about it another time.

　13  「なつかしいわア、この場所ちっとも変わらない」

　　　I missed it here. It hasn’t changed a bit all these years.

　14 「どうしたの？　眼にゴミでも入ったの？」

　  What’s wrong? Do you have something in your eye?

　15  「早くあったかいうちに食べなさい、うまいですよ、どう、

     　　うまいでしょう」

    　　   Help yourself while it’s hot. I know you like it. Does it taste good?
